About Me
I have been a professional Face painter for over a decade. In my years painting I was often asked if I painted in any other medium. I always had to answer no, but I admit, I always wanted to paint on paper. I didn’t think I had the talent. However I am reminded of what Bob Ross said,
“Talent is a pursued interest. Anything that you’re willing to practice, you can do.”
As an enneagram 5 that appeals to me. I always want to know HOW things work and I innately think that I can surely do them if I just study them enough. I think many people think that either you have a talent for art or you don’t and that’s just the end of it. I don’t think that’s true. Yes, I think some people have an innate eye and hand for art. You see children that can draw beautifully, and they have had no training at all. But if you aren’t one of those people it doesn’t mean that you cannot create!
Another quote I love comes from Vincent Van Gogh,
“If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.”
I love that! So often we tell ourselves that we CAN’T do this or that, but we are the only ones putting that limit in ourselves. Just jump in! Do it!
So in October of 2019 I found Sarah Cray of Let’s Make Art. Sarah does tutorials of simple (and sometimes more complex) watercolor projects. She offers kits and supplies to complete these projects. I wanted one and thought, “hmmm…..maybe I can do that.” So I bought a few supplies and gave it a go, and I was really excited with what I was able to create. Over the next months I did many LMA projects and began to expand my skills beyond her projects to try my own and following some other watercolorists. Maria Raczynska is another of my favorites.
Watercolor is such an interesting medium to me. You paint in a backwards manner from most other paints, painting from light to dark. The colors are transparent, which gives them a lovely, almost alive quality. But my favorite thing is to paint wet on wet. You let the color do it’s own thing on the paper and sometimes it really surprises you!
I will continue to develop and learn and I am excited to see what I could be able to paint in a year or more!
